Michael House is a homeless charity in Boscombe Bournemouth with a reconditioning bike project. The residents have been busy reconditioning unwanted bikes for rough sleepers and people within our local community for a nominal donation to cover the cost of parts.
Since starting the project in 2019, they have developed this initiative into a self-funding community project, with a view to helping more people to save their travel costs and further their move-on opportunities.
Residents are welcome to take part in this project and learn the skills of bicycle maintenance, whilst gaining confidence within a voluntary placement. All volunteers are able to elevate this activity to a training opportunity, with fully funded certificated assessment-based learning and/or online courses available.
During 2020, Michael House on the Move project continued to operate and donated children’s bikes to families in need and free bike safety checks and services to local Key Workers.
They have bikes for sale on their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/MichaelsLimited If you would like to support this project, need a bike to be service or if you have an unused bicycle sitting in the shed destined for landfill, please make contact with Michael House or email: onthemove@michaelhouse.co.uk.
